Assignment | Lesson Three | Racism

Part One:

Post and submit a reflection at least 200 words using the following prompts:

  1. The most segregated hour of the week – as Martin Luther King first noted 60 years ago – continues to be Sundays during church service. Why? What does this say about the church? It’s faithfulness to the Gospel? Can it even be the body of believers if only one part of the body shows up?
  2. As White Christian nationalism rises, should it be considered Christian? Why or why not? More broadly, has U.S. policies concerning race manifested within the church. If so, how? What should the church’s message be to the congregation, to the community, concerning the racism prevalent within society.
  3. How do Black and Latine churches differ from white churches in their liturgies, theologies, and forms of fellowship? If all are Christian, why do these differences exist? To what extent is Christianity shaped by the culture?

The part is due on Saturday, October 24.

Part Two:

Respond to the contributions of at least two other class members. Your responses to others may include acknowledgment of helpful insights gained by a fellow student's entry, further questions raised by another's comments, or a respectful critique of another's argument. Each of these response posts should be at least 150 words in length but no more than 350 words.

This part is due on Sunday, October 25.
