ʻŌpū Aliʻi: Wisdom-Based Leadership Development Program
Pacific School of Religion
About This Course
Leadership at IHS doesn’t start with a title. It starts in how you show up for guests, for coworkers, and for yourself, on the hard days and the good ones.
ʻŌpū Aliʻi builds on the retreat you attended and goes deeper over six months. You’ll practice three competencies of Wisdom-Based Leadership (Contemplative Care, Creative Communication, and Courageous Collaboration) and learn how each connects to the values that already guide IHS: Kuleana, Ho’okipa, Kulia i ka nu’u, Ho’ohanohano, Ha’aha’a, Malama, Alaka’i, and Lokahi.
Each month pairs a short online module with a two-hour live virtual session. The modules give you the ideas, and the live sessions are where you practice them with your colleagues.

Each month follows the same rhythm:
- Watch the module before your live session. It takes about 20–30 minutes, and it lets us spend our live time practicing instead of presenting.
- Reflect in writing. Each module ends with a short prompt. Your answers become raw material for the breakout conversations.
- Try the practice. Each module also offers one small practice to try during the week. This is where learning turns into habit.
- Join the live session. Bring something real from your work: a conversation you’re dreading, a pattern that’s stuck, or a moment you handled well and want to understand.
- Share what’s comfortable. Nothing is required. Be as open as feels right to you.
Cameras on if you can, and close other tabs. We’ll model the unhurried attention we’re practicing.
