SCRIPTURE CLOSING | LECTIO DIVINA

Assignment

Lectio Divina, or “divine reading,” is a meditative practice of reading through Scripture. It is meant to be slow and deliberate, giving us the chance to soak in the stories, promises, and truths in the Bible. Lectio Divina can be practiced in many ways, alone or in community, though it always consists of reading a passage multiple times and reflecting on it. For a more detailed exploration of Lectio Divina, read through the StoryArc guide created by spiritual director Osheta Moore, available in the PAX Marketplace.

Follow these steps to engage in Lectio Divina together with Psalm 46:1-7.

  1. Find three people to take turns reading the passage aloud.
  2. As the first person reads, everyone else is invited to simply listen. After the reading, leave time for participants to share a word or phrase that stuck out to them. They need not explain why; they only need to name the word or phase. Spend a few moments in silence, pondering the words and phrases that were shared.
